Charlotte Learning Academy is committed to providing a free and appropriate education to all students with a disability recognized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The disabilities recognized under IDEA include speech or language, hearing, visual, orthopedic and other health impairments, mental disability, learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism and traumatic brain injury.
Charlotte Learning Academy serves students with various classifications of disability. Students are placed in the least restrictive environment according to the Individualized Education Plan directives.
Instruction is provided through a variety of models including consultative, collaborative and inclusive, as well as pull-out resource services and specialized services and programs.
Charlotte Learning Academy also provides 504 services. Section 504 is part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. It is an anti-discrimination law that protects people with disabilities. Students might qualify for services under Section 504 if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning or working. These services fall under the regular education program.
