Lottery

Tuesday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00a.m.

If there are more applications than openings in any grade level, then by NC law a charter school must conduct a lottery. For the first year of operation, enrollment priority will be given to the children of the school’s initial board members, principal, and teachers.

Wait List

A Wait List for each grade level is created when all openings in that grade level are filled, and students on the list will be contacted if and when an opening occurs. Names are added in the order completed applications are received. It is probable that Charlotte Learning Academy might offer a spot to most families who meet the Lottery deadline.

Process

For each completed application, an index card will be placed in a bowl and randomly drawn, by grade level, one card at a time. After openings are filled, the cards are drawn to determine the order of the Wait List, by grade level. Families are notified in writing of Lottery results (grade placement or wait list placement) within two weeks.
