The educational philosophy and the methods we will use to teach our students are designed with one particular goal in mind. We intend to create an environment where the learning is student-centered, meaning we focus heavily on the needs of our students as individuals and mold teaching methods specifically designed to be the most effective for each particular student. Student-centered learning is focused on each student’s needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles, resulting in the teacher being the facilitator of learning. Student-centered learning requires students to be active, responsible participants in their own learning and unique and distinctive learning styles among students are encouraged. At CLA, we do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to learning and incorporating teaching philosophies like the Brain Based Learning Theory and the theory of Multiple Intelligences can be critical to a student-centered learning environment because they acknowledge and promote various modes of diverse learning styles.
